The musical tale of the first all-female thrash metal band in the Middle East, a quartet fighting for freedom of expression as their hometown, Beirut, explodes.
Slave to Sirens is a thrash metal band made up of five girls: Lilas, Shery, Maya, Alma and Tatyana. The guitarist, Lilas Mayassi, is a 23-year-old who lives with her mother and younger brother on the outskirts of Beirut. During the day she teaches music to children and at night she performs with her band. Secretly, she falls in love with a woman who lives across the border in Syria. Growing up in the shadow of their parents’ civil war, Lilas and the others have big dreams and few opportunities. Not even the participation in one of the world’s major music festivals, in Glastonbury in Great Britain, can change their lives. Lilas returns to Beirut and takes out her frustration on the band, especially on Shery, the enigmatic co-founder, with whom she shares a mysterious past. In the background, the future of Lebanon is increasingly uncertain, in a region as complex as each one of the Sirens.
