X! Cinesuite for Malcolm
2 April, 21:00, Sala Grande - CinemazeroOn the 100th anniversary of his birth, and the 60th of Malcolm X’s death, a must-see new production blends the unstoppable jazz of the Tinissima quartet with rare archival materials, photographs, and drawings by Francesco Chiacchio.
In 2010 X (Suite For Malcolm), produced by Parco della Musica Records, saw Francesco Bearzatti and his Tinissima Quartet win
many awards, including Record of the Year Jazz Music, Best Album Italy and Best Graphic Album at the Jazz It Award readers section. In this kinesuite, the concept album dedicated to the African-American leader Malcom X is transformed and dialogues with images, with a kaleidoscope of ideas and accents: the music constantly changes, from the most lyrical and collected atmospheres to rock, dance and hip hop sounds, enhancing the expressive possibilities of four of the most inspired and versatile jazz musicians on the international scene.
A tribute to the man whose action and thought helped imprint a radical change in the relationship between white and black citizens in the United States. A tribute to his message of freedom and dignity, in a year of anniversaries that commemorate him, and at a time in history when his struggles are, unfortunately, absolutely topical again.
