MASTERCLASS ROBERTO MINERVINI – Pordenone Docs Fest

MASTERCLASS ROBERTO MINERVINI

(THE MASTERCLASS WILL BE HELD IN ITALIAN ONLY) Roberto Minervini is a filmmaker who uniquely combines both fictional and documentary filmmaking techniques, exploring life in the suburbs of rural America today, on the margins of a society in which more and more Americans find themselves because of racial and class divisions. He applied the hybrid method of filmmaking in the so-called “Texas Trilogy”: The Passage (2011), Low Tide (2012) and Stop the Pounding Heart (2013). In The Other Side (2015), he follows the lives of a couple of drug addicts and parallel supporters of the American far right. Minervini manages to create a great sense of intimacy in his films by limiting the number of crew members, forgoing artificial lighting and filming without interruption with a digital video camera. In What You Gonna Do When the World’s on Fire? (2018) follows the African American community of New Orleans in the summer of 2017, when a series of racially motivated murders rocked the country. The Damned (2024) is also his first fully fiction film. Set in the winter of 1862 at the height of the Civil War, it follows a company of volunteers heading west with the task of scouting and garrisoning uncharted lands.
