Born in Rome in 1982, Adele Tulli is a filmmaker and researcher who engages with innovative documentary forms and filmmaking practices
marked by the essay-form. She holds a master’s degree in documentary film from Goldsmiths and a doctorate in audiovisual studies from Roehampton University, and is a lecturer in nonfiction and experimental cinema. In 2011 she made her first documentary: 365 Without 377, which chronicled the struggles of India’s gay community. The second film, Rebel Menopause, is an intimate portrait of over-80-year-old activist Thérèse Clerc. Normal is an unexpected journey into the norms, stereotypes, and conventions of gender in today’s Itali. Her latest work, Real, explores the human experience in the age of hyperconnectedness. A visual survey highlighting the many-and sometimes disturbing-facets of digital living: virtual relationships, digital jobs, cybersexuality, automated and surveilled cities and homes.
